CMR FM 101.3 Present the South Asian Festival

AGNI Band

Agni is a hot, vibrant and entertaining band with live music and dance. This troupe is running into its 10 year mark and has thrilled audiences across North America and has become the most sought after band among the South Asian Music Lovers. They will be performing along with hot and happening lead singers Karthik and Chinmayi from the Indian film industry. Agni’s musical versatility must be heard to believe. Agni is sure to take you on a roller coaster ride this Halloween!

JoSH


We are excited about presenting Josh, the internationally acclaimed Indo-Canadian Band with duo singers Rup and Q that has reached many levels in people’s hearts. JoSH has pierced through the difficult mainstream walls and has succeeded to perform with major artists including Sukhbir and Nelly Furtado. Josh released their first album ‘Main Hoon Tanha’ in 2001 and smash hit 2nd album ‘Kabhi’ in 2004 with Universal Music. They are now set to release ‘Mausam’ also with Universal Music India. JoSH will be a performance you’ve never seen before with edge of the seat excitement!


Amanat Ali, Jawad Ahmed & Annie Khalid

We have three international and reputable stars coming together for this Urdu concert. Annie Khalid from UK will be performing with Amanat Ali and Jawad Ahmed. Rocking tunes, lovely melodies and incredible performance you won’t want to miss. This concert is sure to keep you tight in your seats ‘til the end.


Chennai Rhythms


John Sathya's Chennai Rhythms Orchestra is a professional and leading orchestra in Toronto since 2003 now orchestrating multi language musical shows including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Punjabi and English. Depend on the show, singers and instrument players performing together to give you an energetic performance. Now orchestra is experienced, developed and comes with dancers who are highly professional and talented. They will perform with Chinmayi to give you an unforgettable music experience!
Saturday Night Fever

This is a variety musical and dance show that promises to give you a flavour of South Asian and Western Music. With edge of the seat entertainment which includes: Live performances by Little Empire, Urv Khan, King Roti, Unplugged with Vakeesan, Rajeev ThaProphecy, Sathya Mani, Niruthika, Andre, Kaavyanga and many more… with Live Dances by Lil Lankan Superstars, Skills R Us and many more… Lyricist Vaseegaran will also grace the event with surprise artists… Don’t miss it!


SAMA Models Fashion Show

SAMA Models present ‘Passion for Fashion’. These models will rock the ramp. Bollywood meets Hollywood on the catwalk in a fusion of East meets West as SAMA Models strut to the Bollywood Beats of your favourite tunes!


CMR Star Search CD Release


The grand success of CMR Star Search 2010 concludes at the South Asian Festival with the release of the Final CD created by the winners of the competition along with a concert you won’t want to miss. The music is composed by Vakeesan Muthulingam at Pearls Studio. Also come and sign up for CMR Star Search 2011 at the respective booth!


Destiny Band


Mix of spices makes good curry and a mix of good music makes destiny! This band will have you dancing with various forms of music. A band that is capable of rocking any tune that you are destined to love. DESTINY have been in existence for the past two years and has been making a name for themselves in the musical industry, as one of the premier cross-over band in Toronto, with talented and versatile musicians and singers from all ethnic backgrounds…


Dhwani Band

The “DHWANI” had its humble beginnings as any band would; but now they have made it to the main stream of musical world; in the lime light. Sold out shows, large contributor to the communities in need, the extravagant stage set ups, breath taking live dancers and flawless sound engineering are few of the memorable highlights of DHWANI. As a band they always arise to the occasion


Sargam

This band started in 1998 in Mississauga with three artists and has now grown to over twenty. This has been beautiful voices, melodious songs and rocking tunes. The multitalented band will come together this festival to give you great entertainment. Don’t miss out Sargam with popular Indian Artist Chinmayi in concert that will leave you wanting more.


Magic Show by Travis and Barbara Ratnam

Travis and Barbara Ratnam have presented their unique brand of magic to audiences all over the globe. Combining innovative large scale illusion with dynamic theatrics have made them a favourite across North America. Be prepared to experience an intimate moment of grand illusion! These returning stars of the South Asian Festival bring a new chest of untouched tricks!


Kalaikal Creaitve Arts

KCA is a not for profit arts organization who is striving to nurture the South Asian Arts in Canada by investing in and providing accessible resources to local artists. KCA is growing fast and looking to recruit dancers, volunteers, and coordinators. One of their main projects is the Kalaikal Dance Competition, a fundraising event to fund various community arts projects in the GTA. If you missed out their performance at Kalaikals, here is your second opportunity. Catch some of KCA's dance teams and the winning troupe. KCA – Unity, Charity, Identity.


Lil’ Lankan Superstarz

LLS has been around since October 2002 and originated at L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. LLS continues to provide great entertainment to the Tamil community. The youngsters have reached many milestones since their birth; their latest being LLS XpreSSions. LLS XpreSSions is a dance campaign which was set off to reach out to the youth and take a more social role in the community. In the summer of 2006, the dance camp initially started off with 3 members and has now grown 10 times the size with over 40-50 students. LLS XpreSSions started in Scarborough and has now spread into Mississauga, with prospects in Brampton. LLS stands out as great role models to the Tamil youth as they continue to spread their positive influence wherever they go, being the Thamizh poets of dance.


NKK Dance Academy

Nrutha Kalakendra Dance Accademy is founded by Mrs. Preetha Kandanchatha, dancer, choregrapher and the teacher. She has been awarded the title ‘Kala Thilakam’ from Palakkad District and has done numerous live programs & productions in Kerala. Possessing adequate knowledge in various dance forms, Preetha uses her creativity, talents and innovations on her students while teaching and choreographing. Preetha's vision is to teach NKK students' our Kerala's rich cultural heritage and values with an unbiased view of religion. Empowering, and mentoring her students' in dancing is one of the strengths that her students appreciates and motivates them to excel year after year.


LBalavimala Narthanalyam

– ‘Bharathakalavihagar’ Mrs.Chithra Tharmalingam underwent an intensive and extensive Bharatha Natyam training according to the ancient Gura Shishya tradition under the veteran dance teacher Srimathy Nalayini Rajadurai who was an Assistant Director Of Education (Dance) Colombo, Sri Lanka. She now runs a school ‘Balavimala Narthanalayam’ in Mississauga.


Menaka Thakkar – Menaka Thakkar

is a master dancer in three classical Indian styles – Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi. Ms. Thakkar performed across Canada and soon began to train youngsters in classical bharatanatyam and formed the Menaka Thakkar Dance Company comprised of graduates of her school. The Menaka Thakkar Dance Company became the first South Asian arts organization to be recognized by the Canada Council for the Arts thereby opening the door to other multicultural artists to receive funding. Today the Menaka Thakkar Dance Company, known as MTDC is Canada’s premiere Indian dance company.


Nachdi Jawani

Punjabi Virsa Arts and Culture Academy is a nonprofit organization founded by Nachdi Jawani group primarily run by local youths to promote the preservation of rich and vast cultural traditions of Punjab. The aim of the academy is to portray the essence of Punjabi dancers, music, poetry and art as it existed in a united (pre-1947) Punjab.


Nunca Antes Maracatu

Nunca Antes is a percussion and performance troupe that primarily plays the music of the Maracatu Nations of Recife, Brasil. In a multi-cultural world, we bring our raw energy and acoustic dub to the city streets. Community-oriented and artistically focused this group manifests itself through song, rhythm, beat, movement and excitement. A walking sound system with a heavy emphasis on the bass drums, the alfaias, Nunca Antes plays and entertains in any venue, holds weekly workshops for beginners and brings raw performance to the street. Nunca Antes has developed a mystically enticing yet utterly roots stage show with a list of deep rhythms and song.
