1) Music Talent Search

CMR’s 2nd Canadian Music Talent Search will take place on May 20th and 21st during the South Asian Business Festival (www.businessfestival.ca). Hosted by Canadian Multicultural Radio (“CMR”), local musicians will compete for a chance at professional Music Album making in CMR’s state-of-the-art studios.

The Goal:

“To seek out, expose and reward the best multicultural musical talents from all of the communities CMR serves”

btn Musicians are asked to submit CDs/Tapes of their compositions in rough demo format on or before April 14th, 2006.
btn A panel of judges from the ethnic media and recording industry will choose the Top 10 Finalists from the demo submissions. Finalists will be announced on or after May 10th, 2006 on CMR FM 101.3.
btn Finalists will perform their music on-stage to compete against each other during the South Asian Business Festival on either May 20th or 21st.
btn Three winners will be chosen and each will be awarded recording time in CMR’s studios to professionally record their music. A “Winners Compilation CD” will be expertly created and made available for sale through various outlets.

Winners Compilation CDs, including a detailed description of all tracks, will also be made available at no charge to all of Canada’s leading radio stations.

This is an excellent opportunity to express yourself musically and to gain exposure for your musical talents across Canada’s ethnic communities.

If you are a local Canadian ethnic musician and are interested in participating in this event please submit your demo tapes along with a completed application to:

2) Bursaries

One of the biggest obstacles to the development of a more accurate depiction of Canada’s multicultural and multiracial reality is the perceived lack of qualified on-air staff and journalists. We believe that as an ethnic broadcaster, Canadian Multicultural Radio (“CMR”) can play a role in developing new journalistic and other on-air talents.

btn CMR has developed a two-part initiative to help play a role in this regard. The first will ensure a direct expenditure of $ 7,000 annually for bursaries for visible minority youth pursuing an academic course in broadcasting or journalism. We will provide three bursaries of $ 2,333 each to deserving students to pursue courses in journalism or broadcasting at Humber College.

Interested students need to complete the following application (Download here)
