1) Music Talent Search- Revised - July 25,2006

Music Talent Search competition was done with a strict criteria of original compositions as entries. The past 2 events had entries enough for us to pick 10 candidates who then competed on the stage for the final 3 spots.

However, this time, we have changed the criteria that would be a bit more accommodative. Instead of requiring Original compositions as entries, we will accommodate non-original entries too. This would make the competition a base to choose performing talents.

As a twice an year contest, the May Music Search contest is for Composers and the September music search for performing talents. The best of both could will be put together as a team for the yearly album production.

The choosing of the winners of September event will follow the below procedure:

  1. Own rendition of own or reproduced music as competition entries in the form of CDs from all amateur musicians (who are not professionals in music) in the below categories will be sent to the judges:
    a. Singers
    b. Keyboardists/pianists
    c. Wind Instrumentalists (flute/sax/clarinet etc)
    d. String Instrumentalists (Guitar/Violin/Veena etc)
    (No Percussion Instruments are allowed)
  2. The judges will pre-select 10 best candidates for the competition. The 10 candidates would be of a combination of singers and instrumentalists.
  3. Among the pre-selected vocalists & instrumentalists, the best 3 performers would be selected as winners by the judges on the event days.

The winners of both May & September event would work together in producing an album of original music drawing from each other’s talents.

This change in criteria comes with input from many contestants. We are confident that with the change, more new talents would be brought to light!

CMR’s 3rd Canadian Music Talent Search will take place on Sep 2nd and 3rd during the South Asian Festival (www.businessfestival.ca). Hosted by Canadian Multicultural Radio (“CMR”), local musicians will compete for a chance at professional Music Album making in CMR’s state-of-the-art studios.

The Goal:

“To seek out, expose and reward the best multicultural musical talents from all of the communities CMR serves”

btn Musicians are asked to submit CDs/Tapes of their compositions in rough demo format on or before August 10th, 2006.
btn A panel of judges from the ethnic media and recording industry will choose the Top 10 Finalists from the demo submissions. Finalists will be announced on or after August 20th, 2006 on CMR FM 101.3.
btn Finalists will perform their music on-stage to compete against each other during the South Asian Festival on either Sep 2nd or 3rd,2006.
btn Three winners will be chosen and each will be awarded recording time in CMR’s studios to professionally record their music. A “Winners Compilation CD” will be expertly created and made available for sale through various outlets.

Winners Compilation CDs, including a detailed description of all tracks, will also be made available at no charge to all of Canada’s leading radio stations.

2) Bursaries

One of the biggest obstacles to the development of a more accurate depiction of Canada’s multicultural and multiracial reality is the perceived lack of qualified on-air staff and journalists. We believe that as an ethnic broadcaster, Canadian Multicultural Radio (“CMR”) can play a role in developing new journalistic and other on-air talents.

btn CMR has developed a two-part initiative to help play a role in this regard. The first will ensure a direct expenditure of $ 7,000 annually for bursaries for visible minority youth pursuing an academic course in broadcasting or journalism. We will provide three bursaries of $ 2,333 each to deserving students to pursue courses in journalism or broadcasting at Humber College.
